Enjoy a presentation by Members of the Jane Austen Society of North America to celebrate the birthday of this beloved literary legend.
Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775, in Steventon, Hampshire, England. As a child Jane wrote stories and plays, including parodies, and developed a distinctive style. As an adult, Jane completed six novels including her most famous work, Pride and Prejudice. Jane died on July 18, 1817, in Winchester, Hampshire, at age 41. At this program the presenters will describe Jane's life, the culture of the 18th century that informed her novels, and the popularity and influence of Jane's body of work in the world up to our own time.
